Poland
Poland is making significant steps in developing offshore wind energy in the Baltic Sea. The country has set an ambitious goal to install up to 11 GW of offshore wind capacity by 2040, with 5.9 GW already in advanced stages of development expected to come online around 2030. This is part of Poland’s broader push towards decarbonization and energy independence, aligning with its Energy Policy until 2040, which aims to transition from coal to cleaner energy sources.
State-owned companies like Orlen and PGE are leading the charge, planning to develop 11 GW of offshore wind projects by 2040. These efforts not only focus on reducing CO2 emissions but also strengthening Poland’s energy security by diversifying its energy mix away from imported fossil fuels. The fact that the first offshore wind project has reached financial closure (Baltic Power) has made the heads turn towards Poland to become a key player in the European offshore wind market over the next two decades.
LinkedbyOffshoreWind
Since the start of the PIB project LinkedbyOffshoreWind Poland in September 2022 our cluster of Dutch offshore wind companies and technology experts are sharing knowledge with their Polish counterparts, and we have commissioned reports to bring the Dutch sector up to speed with what happens in Poland.
By actively collaborating with local partners, the LinkedbyOffshoreWind partners focus on teamwork, collaboration, and innovation. Together, we can prove that offshore wind is a powerful and cost-effective solution to achieve climate goals while effectively contributing to economic opportunities through renewable energy and ensuring energy security for the region.
Ultimately, this leads to high certainty for project developers, increased investor confidence, and lower overall costs. With Poland’s’ energy ambitions aligning with the Netherlands, we can contribute to a cleaner, more sustainable planet and make Wind and Water Work.
