Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania
The Baltic States—Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania—are actively advancing their offshore wind energy projects, aiming to tap into the region’s vast potential in the Baltic Sea.
A major project is the strategic cross-border collaboration between Estonia and Latvia. Their joint project, ELWIND, aims to establish 1 GW of offshore wind capacity by around 2030.
Lithuania is also advancing its offshore wind plans, preparing for its second major offshore wind auction in 2025. The country has identified areas in the Baltic Sea with the potential to generate up to 3.35 GW of wind energy.
LinkedbyOffshoreWind
Since the start of the PIB project LinkedbyOffshoreWind the Baltic States in December 2023 our cluster of Dutch offshore wind companies and technology experts are sharing knowledge with their counterparts in the three Baltic States and we have commissioned reports to bring the Dutch sector up to speed with what happens in the Baltic States.
By actively collaborating with local partners, the LinkedbyOffshoreWind partners focus on teamwork, collaboration, and innovation. Together, we can prove that offshore wind is a powerful and cost-effective solution to achieve climate goals while effectively contributing to economic opportunities through renewable energy and ensuring energy security for the region.
Ultimately, this leads to high certainty for project developers, increased investor confidence, and lower overall costs. By aligning the energy ambitions of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania with those of the Netherlands, we can contribute to a cleaner, more sustainable planet and make Wind and Water Work.
